Sound on Sound

2/21/2006- Sound on Sound is relatively new to me, however I hear they have been around for some time. From their website:

"SOUND ON SOUND opened its doors in March of 2004 with one purpose in mind: to bring much-needed life to the sadly dwindling independent music retail scene in Austin, Texas. In a time when both great and not-so-great record shops seem to be cropping up and dropping off the map left and right here in Capital City, SOUND ON SOUND strives to be a breath of fresh air. We miss COOL MOM 'N POP STYLE RECORD SHOPS owned and operated by admitted music-obsessed and friendly record dorks, so that's what we try to be.

In addition to selling LPs, 7"s, CDs, T-SHIRTS, ETC, we also host live music events in-store, feature vinyl and CD listening stations, and boast a helpful and knowledgeable staff.

We stock all kinds of music; new and used, old and recent, everything from the undisputedly classic to hideously obscure, and pretty much anything in-between that we can get our hands on. We've got a definite soft spot for the snotty (i.e. PUNK), staunchly independent (i.e. NOISY), and downright fascinating (i.e. UGLY) side of all things musical, but don't be fooled! We've got a little bit (or a lot, depending on who you talk to!) of everything. We are always buying or trading for QUALITY RECORDS AND CDs of all kinds, including but not limited to PUNK, GARAGE, PSYCH, METAL, CLASSIC ROCK, JAZZ, R&B, SOUL, REGGAE, OLD COUNTRY & WESTERN, FOLK, POP, INDIE ROCK, RAP, ETC. If it doesn't suck, we'll sell it. And if it does, we'll sell it for a dollar!"

I have yet to make my way over there, but will try to ASAP and post pics and more. I can't wait to go!

2/22/2006- So I made my way over to Sound on Sound and was blown away with how friendly Jason (the owner) was, he not only dug music, but dug the idea of spreading the word about indpendent record shops in central texas! He had made a map of all the shops in town and passed them out durning the last record convention in town, hopefully we can get a map to throw up here soon. As for the actual shop, SOS is the way a record shop should be, about the music, Jason has a great variety of not just punk, but almost every genre, he is a must stop if you are in the central austin area!

Here is Jason working the registar, his friendly attitude towards customers is something everyone will find refreshing!	Can't forget the local papers, got to stay up to date.
Sound on Sound also carries shirts and other "stuff", another good reason to drop by.	This guy is open everyday with big hours, impressive!
