Welcome to Central Texas Grooves

Austin Record Convention

4/4/2006- So I made my way over to the record convention on Friday, boy was it big!!! As noted, it is largest in the USA and I believe it, just walking around taking photo's. What I really liked

3/5/2006- So Eve over at Antones told me I should contact Doug at the Austin Record Convention about getting them listed and taking some photo's, so April 1st I will be there with bells on, ready to capture some of the action, as well as maybe pic up some sweet tunes... Here is a short blurb I took from their website (hope they don't mind):

" The Austin Record Convention is the largest sale of recorded music in the USA. There is more music and related emorabilia availible here, at one time, than anywhere else. Ranging from the 78's of the 1930s to the latest compact discs of today, over one million 78s, 45s, LPs, CDs, cassettes, posters and collectibles (probably even a few 8-track tapes!) are in the auditorium. Over 300 different dealers from all over the USA and Europe are spread out over 50,000 square feet of floor space. The show is so big that to see everything takes most of the weekend, so if you're in a hurry we have search announcements at 12, 2, and 4 o'clock from the concession area to help in locating specific items.

The show brings together collectors and dealers from all over the world for a weekend of activity in Austin. The event started in 1981 and has been held twice a year, in the spring and fall, ever since. It has grown steadily over the years and now uses all available floor space in the auditorium. The location in Austin, "Live Music Capital of the World", is a beautiful city that is great fun to visit has aided in the popularity of the event. If you attend the show be sure to save some energy for an evening visit to any of the many clubs around town and check out the live music scene for which Austin is world famous. "

So I couldn't get the whole convention in one shot, guess I should have had a ladar with me.
Since I showed up on Friday, there were still a lot of people setting up...

Here is Doug, he runs the whole thing, to say he was working hard would be an understatement!
This setup is a good example of how each booth had lots and lots of records!
This is the snack section, seemed like lots of people would meet over here and talk about their finds, good times...
People were even selling turntables... nice...
...
Got to like the pink cow look...
Zach from Backspin made an appearance... he was really excited to make it to the convention.
